This is an easy, 2.5-hour, 4-kilometer hike with a total ascent of 200 meters. The Lysefjord, or the fjord of lights, is one of Ryfylke’s most magnificent destinations. The 42-kilometer-long fjord was formed nearly 10,000 years ago when the last ice age ended. As one of Norway’s most photographed areas, the Lysefjord offers visitors spectacular views around every bend.
Do you have a limited amount of time in Stavanger but would still like to experience the region’s spectacular nature? Would you prefer to avoid the crowds and hike in near-solitude? The Lysefjord View Hike is a perfect trip for people on a tight schedule (cruise passengers, etc.) and those who would prefer a shorter, more peaceful hike. Relax and enjoy the fantastic views from aboard ferries that travel through the area’s archipelago and into its fjords. Follow a dedicated private guide along rarely-used trails. Hike along the Lysefjord’s inner hillsides and through ancient pine forests while learning about the area’s unique flora and fauna. Enjoy spectacular views of the Lysefjord and capture unforgettable memories.
Your professional guide will meet you at the time and location you selected when booking (see text above for options). Your adventure will begin with a 30-minute transfer to the base of the hiking trail, including driving the world´s longest undersea road tunnel.
This day hike is 50% shorter than the hike to Preikestolen, and has also just 50% of the elevation gain. To ensure your trip is as peaceful as possible, your guide will lead you up a trail that is rarely travelled, even by locals. The trail is hardly visited, and if we see people, they will most likely be locals. This gives us time to truly enjoy the silence of nature and out-of-this-world views on the Lysefjord. You will not see Preikestolen, but you will have an authentic experience and unique pictures to take home. You’ll be lead through ancient pine forests along the Lysefjord’s inner hillsides. During the hike, you’ll come across a wide variety of flora and, if you’re lucky, also catch glimpses of the area’s beautiful wildlife (including owls, ravens, roe deer, and eagles). The hike’s leisurely pace will allow you ample time to enjoy the tranquility of the fjord and its unforgettable landscapes. After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, your guide will find a beautiful place for you to relax while enjoying a small snack and warm beverage. After the break, you’ll complete the second leg of the hike, which will take about an hour.
Your journey back to Stavanger will begin onboard a ferry. During the short ferry ride, you’ll enjoy viewing more of the region’s spectacular landscapes. Most notably, you’ll get to view the ‘mouth’ of the Lysefjord, where it sharply branches off from the Høgsfjord. After returning to Stavanger, your guide will lead you on a short sightseeing trip through the city’s old town, Gamle Stavanger, where you’ll walk along narrow cobblestone streets lined with centuries-old wooden houses.
The tour ends in Stavanger at the time and location you chose when booking.
