Kjerag Preseason Hike

About 10,000 years ago, the last ice age ended and massive glaciers scraped their way from the mountain tops down toward sea level. In the process, Norway’s rugged landscapes, most notably its fjords, were formed. At some point, the famous Kjerag boulder was wedged into a mountain crevasse where it has hung ever since.

Join an early-morning preseason spring hike to the famous Kjerag boulder, and enjoy the spectacular Lysefjord before the beginning of the high season.  Witness Norway’s bright green -and sometimes snowy- wilderness as it awakens after the long, cold winter. Breathe in the crisp, cool mountain air and experience the silent serenity of hiking in near-solitude. If you dare (and conditions allow), stand atop the Kjerag boulder, which hangs a heart-stopping 984 meters above the fjord. Hike in small groups and enjoy the panoramic views of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer. This time of the year, you should expect the possibility of snow conditions while hiking to Kjerag. As needed, your professional guide will provide you with hiking poles, spikes, and snowshoes.

This is a demanding 5.5-hour, 11 kilometer hike with a total ascent of 800 meters. Snow and ice may be present (hiking poles, spikes and snowshoes will be provided, if necessary).

MORE DIFFICULT – Suitable for adults (16 yrs.+) who are in very good condition, and have previous hiking experience.
